Hi --

I like to make nice stock books of various collections (for example a collection of Machins or a collection of Dead Countries, etc.). Along the way I get lots of duplicates, extras, etc. I want to keep those because you never know when you may be able to trade them, give them away, etc. I also have stuff that is destined for a stockbook but has not been sorted yet so needs temporary (and you know that can sometimes turn into mean long-term!) storing.

So...
Is it OK to store all these extras and orphans in bunches in glassine envelopes (I get the Westvaco archival ones). I then put the envelopes in a plastic draw in a closet that gets plenty of air?

These are all used stamps -- so now worries about gum.

My big concern is that I don't want them to get musty!
(wonder if I ever do get a musty smell on any what the best way to de-must stamps is? -- but I'll post that in a separate question :)

Thank you!

As long it's dry, no gum on the stamps and no rodents present, I don't see any problem. Maybe keep a box of Arm & Hammer nearby to soak up any musty "air".

I have purchased box lots from the 30's and 40's and the glassines were somewhat yellowed..but no apparent damage to the stamps within...i did have a bunch of Spanish Mint never hinged sets curl up on me from humidity..but I can not blame the glassines for that...
