I have a lot of new Canadian stamps, or at least I think there new. Are there any problems with soaking them the traditional way or do they also have the same problem as the newer USA stamps?

Not an expert, but, I have been reading up on this lately.. and the majority of the posts say the "Canuck" ones come off easier.

BTW I was born there so I can use the "C" word. :)

The Canadian ones do come off easily compared to the US counterparts. The US ones I don't soak. But then again, I've got a stamp collection friend in the local post office so I get new ones easily that don't need to be soaked.

Hi stampvirgin,

I'm Canadian and I don't think I've ever been told! What does "Canuck" mean?

Are you enjoying the loss of your virginity, btw? It's a really great hobby, isn't it?

Peter

There are a few earlier self adhesives that do require a bit more patience and longer soaking or re-soaking but most are fine to come off.

Some, once the release layer has been wetted, have the layer of gum kind of curl up, so you can kind of move the gum layer and paper layer separately between your fingers, and the gum layer will work itself free and separate and (continue rolling or moving fingers) roll into a glob of adhesive residue.

These 'extra' glue globs can be saved themselves. There are many ways of collecting them or many uses around the house but sadly most are thrown away in ignorance of the joys of glob gathering.

The word Canuck I really do not know the origins of either. I have the vague impression it meant a French Canadian woodsman from years ago?? However, here is an interesting article in Wikipedia about the origins of Canuck:

exactly, it is used as an affectionate term or a derogatory one, depending on who is saying it and the context..

Like a black person saying to another black person.. "hey my nigga" in that case it is affectionate.. however most other uses are not.
so If someone doesn't like people from Canada and they call you a Canuck, they are insulting you..
Otherwise it's okay.. just ask the Vancouver Canucks hockey team.

I was trying to be witty but failed. My apologies.

There is no use. Perhaps there should be one? All things philatelic are saved, what about the left over glue globs? Usually the glue floats away in the old soaking water. This stuff stays around. Maybe it can be used in the garden to scare away certain bugs? Perhaps it would attract more bugs. A new research area for the intrepid explorer is unveiled!
