Good Afternoon Everyone,

I wanted to start out by saying that I am learning a LOT by reading all of these postings, seeing what other people have and how they collect, etc. This is a great forum to belong to! I just wish I had a lot more time to devote to it all!

I am trying to figure out, why it is, that I see the same FDC listed, Like Scotts #799, yet my FDC Cachet is a lot different. So far, so this FDC, I have seen three different Cachets. This one I saved off of an ebay auction listing.

This one shows 4 different cachets, different even from the image above.

Any the ones that I have are different still. I assume that it is all in the artist that makes/made the cachet?? Also, I see listed in Brookmans and Scott's guides, that under certain FDC's from certain artists are valued at more. So, is there a way I tell who made it?? Who the artist is??

Thanks again as always......Marty

Marty,

Yes, they look different because different artists or companies produced them, such as Fleetwood and other companies that specialize in selling FDC subscribtions have their own art done for their line.

As to value, this is just a hunch -- maybe someone more knowledgeable about FDC's can provide a better answer -- but it could be that the sought after artists produce relatively few cachets per cover and possibly sign their work.

Marty.....

Look carefully at your covers......somewhere in or near the cachet you should find a name or initials. Few are left unsigned. Do you have a magnifying glass ??

Tom,

No, I don't have a magnifying glass, as strange as that may sound, I have looked high and low for one. When I go out today, I am going to the craft store and get one. I have always wanted one of those desk mount ones with a light on it for working on my train models, but they are too big and not enough magnification. I have a Photo Loupe, maybe that'll help, I will try that first (I just thought of that...lol)

PhilB,

Thanks for the offer of help and support. Today, now that I have a moment, I am going to look for an artist initials as well as scan them and post them so you can see what I mean.

Thanks again guys.....Marty
