Found this stamp(?) on the back of a photo from 1867 (that fits the rest of the photo's in the album). Is it a revenue stamp? R2 but I don't know if I'd say it was red. variation?

I'm hoping you can help because it doesn't seem to fit either color or caption on the bottom ... and I'm still awaiting my specialty book (the 1st I'd ordered was canceled.) :(

This is a revenue stamp. These were required on photoes of the day, this use is rather common.

looks like an R15 but I could be wrong.

Yes It's a 1864 R15c,just check for double transfers/cracked plate or the like varieties though I can't see any you never know your luck.
