I quit my browser and cleared my cache just in case. But yes, they are still for sale as you just noted.

Yes, unfortunately it still happens.

You may be referring to one of the more recent publicized cases, involving the so-called "Saratoga Ring". Some members were exposed, but not legally busted. And yes, some of them are still active, using different aliases. Often, by the time you figure out who they really are, they pack up and move to another username. There are also a number of copy-cats.

Here's a link to a page on the Saratoga Fakes: http://www.scads.org/alterations/Saratoga.htm

Interestingly, there is what appears a reputable trader on ebay, with an unfortunately similar name: http://myworld.ebay.com/saratogatrading/

Well...

I had bid on the one described as used, but just issued a retraction. Hopefully ebay doesn't get mad at me. I had bid low, so even if it were a 76 and not a 76a, no big loss, but still, it's the principle...

No...still active. Something happened with the cut&pasting of the URL for the link. If you click on the links from my original post, you will get there. Or to view all active offerings: http://stores.ebay.com/INDEPENDENCE-STAMPS

In any case, the seller consistently offers very little description on stamps for sale (aside from the fact that some of the offerings are dubious at best). I will not be buying...

Even without my glasses that stamp does NOT "look unused"! I would also say it looks reperfed(also without my glasses!) I would give this seller a wide berth. Or at the very least check anything I was going to bid on VERY carefully!

Just my .02

Word: The seller page offers up a description in the "bio" section, but then ends with "Good luck and good bidding. Pinnipedia Collections."

Though supposedly the store is now called Independence Stamps ?!

Details...

Anyway...in this busy market place, there seem to be safer venues for my few spare $'s...

I had sent a note to the seller. He responded back, that he agreed it was used. made a comment about someone washing it.
But he said since someone had made a bid, he couldn't change the description, and said at $.99 it was a good #76.

I have done ebay before and you can always edit the description or add notes.
I have since reported it to ebay as a misleading or fraudulent sale, pointing out the reason's why.

Way to go, SV. You can't change the description, but you can certainly add notes, agreed. Why would you say "Looks Unused" if you were sure it was unused?

It was completely misleading, as in the title and in the area where ebay makes you list condition as either used or unused, it was listed as unused. Only down in the seller generated section, amidst some weird formatting, did the phrase appears unused show up. I think you did the right thing SV to report it. It is best to assume good faith, but still, these things should at least be noted and looked into...

I think every one gets bitten once in there life by these sellers before they wise up to what they should be looking for but with me I keep getting bitten and this is due to being to trusting, there is a seller on Stampwants that I trusted until he sold me this and didn't disclose the re cut perfs and with my eyes I didn't see this on the #30a.

Funny you know some one long ago told me not to trust this seller then he sold me a revenue with a supposed double transfer and it didn't have one, that was his first strike then came this one that's his second strike,I'm not going to give him a third but I'll probably for get and buy from him again alzheimer's
