Hello,
some time ago I bought very interesting collection of old USA stamps at "garden bazar" after dead of collector.
I found there this one scrap (right side ), but interesting is that this scrap-stamp had a "special" position in album.
Hard to ID it, but I think it can be A89 which exist only in purple variant. Could color be changed by demaging from purple to this "oyster" color? If yes, I see so change first time
EDIT: I am 90% sure that this is A89

The stamp on the left looks like an A89 (Scott #253). The "scrap" on the right is so faded, it is hard to tell if it is an A89 or maybe an A62 (Scott # 221). The difference that I see at a glance between A89 and A62 is the triangular embellishments added in the upper corners on the latter issue. Your faded scrap is far gone, but it looks like there is a triangle in the upper right corner. It may be an illusion from scanning, but the scrappy stamp looks bigger, despite perfs being badly worn (and a straight edge on the left?).

I checked it better by lens, and it is A89 - triangular is there, same perforation, same size of matrix, same stamp :-)
Question is that stamp is faded or was really oyster error.
