In Canada, Staples online shows the Scotch 811 tape in a roll the size (in metric) and price (in Canadian) that khj describes.

They also, as a side promotion on the same page, showed a Elmer's product called Sticky Out that removes glue residue. Has anyone tried this to remove the newer self adhesives?

I tried it once on those French self-adhesive red Mariannes that are impossible to get off with water. The Sticky Out is made from citrus oils and it turned the stamp semi-translucent, like a piece of glassine paper. And it didn't help much to get the stamp off the paper. But my fingers smelled like tasty oranges for three days, so at least there was some collateral benefit...

Well, that did make it all worth while then.

I wonder if all adhesives on stamps are of a similar formulation or if it would work on some and not others or not have the effects it did on the Mariannes?

Unless the paper contains plasticizers or something along those lines, I would have to think that it would cause the translucence ("greasy" appearance) on any type of paper. Different adhesives would react differently to different solvents - the 1975 US Christmas self-adhesives with the self-destructing gum will come off with cleaning solvent, for example, but that won't touch the French stamps, or the Brazilian self-adhesives either.
