Hi,

I tought it was a print error because the upside of this stamp and letters "Martin
Luther King Jr." are not like that.Letters are straight and stamp border too. I never saw that before... but i'm newbie on the World Stamp.

Thank's for the explanation.

The reason it is straight in some areas and not straight in other areas has to do with the alignment/registration of the color dots.

6 different color plates were used to produce this stamp. When some color align well, you will see nice clean edges except under extremely high magnifications. When some colors are misregistered, then you will see the jagged edges (in the bottom letters). It all happens to depend on which colors form the letter boundary and which ones are misregistered.

You are very visually perceptive! Not many collectors like that around anymore.

Hi,

Another one I like is this one. I don't know if it is common but the shape on a part of this stamp look like an army/peace ribbon. It is for me a special and different stamp.

Thank you!

Yes, it does look like the ribbon remember our troops.

Physically, it looks like small piece of thread that has adhered to the stamp surface. I don't think it is part of the actual stamp at all; just a coincidence.

You really have good eyes for these things. You might be one of those who really enjoy fly-speck philately, and be pretty good at it, too!

Hi Khj,

I don't think it is a small piece add on the stamp. It is a paper shape and some extra paper outside the stamp.

Add other pictures...

Thank you!

Hmmm, very interesting. Can't really tell what it is without physically examining. Is it embossed from the back at all? Possibly an anomaly in the original paper roll? Don't know.

Anybody else have any ideas?

Amazing! Right as I am reading this thread again, what do I get in the mail - an ebay lot won, and the seller used a strip of 6 of the exact ghost tagging 13c stamp for postage

Congratulations, BeeSee!

The primary characteristic to look for and ID, is the ghost image is always much lighter and noticeably blurry. This is caused by the fact that it is transferred through the tagging mat, not the printing press. Depending on the press and printing conditions, it may be only one color, or more than one color.

I should also clarify that it is technically a production freak, not a printing freak. Since it is made during the tagging process (i.e., post-printing).

Enjoy your newest freak!
