i'm blessed; I got, what I think, is some really good stuff in moms/ grandpa's legacy.
So what is the thought process about moving a collection to acid free environ. I don't understand the D-XX format that his sheets are in; I love that mom penciled in the Scott numbers.
Do I use hinge free if they aren't and were in his book? Obviously can't use that for id.
I don't even know what format his books are in. a lot of the stamps are under some heavy plastic type thing that has actually changed color and warped over the years.
The numbers are foreign from Scotts. Only way I know where I am is the pencil number on the sheet.
IF the mounts and glassine interleaving are discolored and warping, I would assume that they are not because of the discoloration. Is the paper discolored with foxing or brown spots? New albums should have archival safe, acid free paper. Also, you would have to purchase new mounts for the stamps themselves, that can be a little costly all at once. You may want to look into hingeless albums, that way you do not have to buy a new album and mounts for each stamp. The hingeless albums are a bit pricier than the ones that you have to mount the stamps with hinges or mounts yourself.
