Hello All,

I have a 'pack' which contains the complete set of Great Britain KEVIII stamps plus the British Medallic Pattern Crown.

I have been unable to find any information regarding the source of this item.

The inscriptions read:-

'KING EDWARD VIII
1936
* Became Prince of Wales 1911
* Accession January 1936

British Medallic Pattern Crown

* Abdication December 1936
* Married Wallis Simpson 1937

Complete and original unused 1936 British postage stamp set.'

The second scan shows the reverse of the pattern crown engraved 'CYPRUS'

Can anyone shed any light on who designed and issued this?
Any help appreciated.

Regards.
Ron.

The coin was produced by Richard Lobel, of Coincraft. I don't know whether the whole item came from the same source.

Very nice Ron,
I think a few members here will be salivating.

They say there was foreboding in the stamp design,
for the King was looking from the light, back into the darkness.

Thanks for that link - I checked it and found it quite interesting,
though we are not coin collectors normally.

Some neat items though.

Regards.
Ron.

Rod,
Yes, interesting that - Eunice tells me that George VI insisted that the crown should be above the sovereign's head on his stamp issue.
He felt it had proved unlucky or something for his brother when the crown was not above his head - have you heard that?
Regards.
Ron and Eunice.

G'day Ron,
how fascinating, nope, not heard that one,
and never realised the position of the crown either.

Lot's of gossip around stamps
There was a documentary on the abdication
a few weeks back on SBS perhaps.
Didn't paint the fellow in a very good light at all.

He was a timid, somewhat effeminate weakling, who wanted the throne about as much as his brother George VI did! A friend and fan of Hitler.

Forget the lovey-dovey abdication. He was groomed to be King from the day he was born, and walked away from his responsibility and duty. Not my favourite Royal (can you tell???)

Not that I'm biased, but I wish King George V had outlived the pair of them.
