Wow! Very nice group of King George V electricity and gas inspection stamps! I once saw some of these on document but I passed on them.

King George V was an avid stamp collector and played a major role in building the Royal Philatelic Collection into the most comprehensive collection of UK and British Commonwealth stamps in the world.

The story goes, though Herman Herst says it was never confirmed, that when the famous British Guiana 1-cent of 1856, "the world's rarest stamp" went on sale, King George V's agent lost the bidding to an agent of Arthur Hind of Utica, New York who at that time held the world's largest stamp collection.

That is one of the stories that makes the British Guiana so desirable. People want to own a stamp that even a King was denied having.
