I know it looks like half a dozen other, but I have wanted this stamp for so long. It is Scott 459, the imperf rotary horizontal coil. It has a certificate, as it must.

Great example of a stamp that is difficult to acquire in such fantastic condition. You are right, a certificate is a must. k |

I'm just guessing; but, I think the three wide margins are good indications of a coil. Of Course, there is the possibility it is an imperf from a pane.....but, that's where the certificate comes in, eh. Nice stamp and I know how good it feels to land one you've been waiting for.

bfranton, I too wondered that until I realized that the stamp was issued as a coil. It is not so much a matter of how do you know it is a coil as knowing that the stamp was indeed issued in coil form. Having said that, I do know that it is known and available as a block of 4, as well as pairs.
The note in Scott points out that it is scarcer used than unused. Also the line pairs seem to be at least as scarce as hen's teeth.
The printing run was also perforated as coils, too. In fact the vertical perf coil is used to fake 459 by trimming the perfs. |
