..and you thought the Sixties were in poor taste!
at least we tried to get rid of the suit and tie!
(who designed the "bag of fruit" anyway? off with his head)

So men, strike a pose.

Ahhh, time to break out the leather codpiece, and the slitted pantaloons.

I was remiss in not mentioning New Zealand is excused
from this thread, due to their marvelous contribution.

Is that the Joker and his gang!??

It is sometimes amusing to see the lengths people will go to in order to fit in to the in thing at the moment. But, then again, I suppose we will be amusing to those that follow us.

Some styles are classics or at least unforgettable.

And that would be Rod's third stamp I suppose, although the stamp seems a bit more feminine than I imagine the Musketeers to have been. But, on display at court and all that, I imagine they would have cut some striking figures themselves.

It is interesting to me to see how the fourth stamp's man looks to me something like young ladies dress today. The university bus travels by my place and when I take it I see all the newest fashions. Quite the treat sometimes but others are, to my mind, harkening back to devil figures in tapestries and paintings. I haven't asked what they are portraying as they would think me mad most likely, and that they are just being in fashion.

Great contribution Puzzler
I couldn't find the movie the 3 musketeers
that I liked best, I don't recall it being Gene Kelly's.
I thought it had Douglas Fairbanks in it.

The greatest sword fencing film of all time though
with pencil moustaches and hats and flowing capes
has to be Gérard Depardieu in "Cyrano de Bergerac"
What a thriller that was.

Not on the stamp

but on the back of the cover

I'm not sure, though, that the name 'The Navvy' has all that much cachet. Still, I suppose for a dress-down Friday ...

Nice conribution from the Victorian.
I have seen that cover before,
Is that an early "window envelope" ?

Tell you what, how long is it,
since you have seen a good 'tache ?
They are simply not in favour anymore.

I have been thinking I may
shave off my beard and leave the moustache,
try to get the movement up and popular again.

Rodney, the envelope is 14½ cm x almost 9 cm. The postmark is 8 OCT 13, from, ahem!, Melbourne.

I can see you now, in your The Harvester, twirling your mustachios at the village maidens, and leaving a trail of broken hearts across the inland. Do you think it entirely fair, Rodney? Better keep the facial fur intact, I think. You'd be less of a menace.

(My sainted father sprouted a moustache during WWII, and kept it for the rest of his life. I've grown and removed one a couple of times. I always decide to shave it off just before going abroad, with my passport photo showing me with a moustache. Always causes furrowed brows and sucked in lips when I front up to the Immigration desk. Next time, I might try reversing it: grow a moustache just before travelling, next time.)
