And another Carnegie library, this one in Akron, Ohio. The building is now in use as a law office. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_...,_UH_USA.jpg

Here's the Carnegie Library in Cadillac, Michigan -- this is now the museum of the Wexford County Historical Society.

Sturgeon Bay Wisconsin was also a thankful recipient of such a library grant...here is their building using a lot of nearby stone for the exterior facing. The vines which covered the stones on the front of the building were rumored to have come up from Illinois where they were selected from vines growing on the Abraham Lincoln property. Today the old building houses several lawyer's offices.

I was lucky enough to find three Carnegie library cards recently. And after a little digging I was surprised to find that all of them are still standing, and two are still in operation as libraries!

Nyack, NY - built in 1901, still a library

Ottumwa, IA - built in 1900, still a library

Newport, KY - built in 1899, now a performance hall. This was the first Carnegie library to open in Kentucky.

Carnegie Public Library, Turners Falls, Massachusetts

1903: Andrew Carnegie gave $13,500 to the town to build the library.

This is the only operating Carnegie library in Massachusetts that carries the title in its name. It might also be the only library to have a mounted moose on the wall of the children's area.

William Allan Neilson Library, Smith College, Northampton, Massachusetts

1905: Andrew Carnegie gave $62,500 to Smith College to build the library. Carnegie had at first intended to donate that amount for the construction of a biology building. But tensions were growing between Northampton's Forbes Library and the college. Originally, Smith students were expected to use the nearby public library resources. It gradually became obvious that the students needed a library of their own.

Berlin, Wisconsin.
Quite a new building then, postmarked in 1904
Last part of the message talks of cataloging the 2000+ books there and mentions the Platteville library.

At long last, the other Carnegie Library view from Eureka, Cal. Worth the wait, as it was postmarked aboard the hard-to-find Arcata & Dyerville RPO.
