Looking for opinions on the brown marks in the corners. It looks like the same color as the stamp, but might be a cancel?

I suspect that it's a cancel, but it should be looked at under UV.

More evidence of a cancel. Possibly luminescence from being cleaned. Also looking at the stamp with a high power glass like a 60X might show where a cancel has been cleaned. The bottom right corner shows some marks as well. And the bottom left.

Jefferson's mouth is very fuzzy looking. The stamp may have been cleaned.

Or repaired. The color seems close but not the same.

Please show a scan of the back of the stamp.

I see these in repairs of revenue stamps with punch canx filled in. Some are very good, some not soo much...

Enlarging the image does not appear to show a repair, cleaning seems more likely.

I'm agreeing with these conclusions. The mouth looks like a sign of cleaning.

There might be, and I repeat might, be a tiny filled thin in the area of TJ's left cheek ( the right looking from the back) when I enlarged the reverse. But nothing in the area discussed earlier.
