What's The Name Of The 1880's Handwriting Machine Used On Post Card?

This UX7 card was printed and then it looks like an machine pen was used.
The very light handwriting is all dots. It may also be a second printing over the card? It's lighter than an ink pen and darker than a pencil.
I think I read about this before on one of the stamp auction sites.

One of the very early types of mimeograph machines using a vibrating stylus to create a stencil of fine dots was the Gestetner cyclostyle. I have a postal card dated 1887 with a similar dotted message.

I recall Edison had one also.

Interestingly, these are not too dissimilar from a tattoo needle.
