Hello everyone! I'm new to this forum and am exited to be part of the community. I have been collecting for a few years and have a good selection of officials from Great Britain. Some with certs and many without. Has anyone here seen this before. It's likely not genuine, but interesting that someone would do this to a decent collectable stamp and then apply the overprint to the wrong stamp and upside down??? Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance, Frank.

If not genuine, the intent would likely be to create a rarity. Same thing with doubled overprint fakes.

Gibbons lists inverted overprints on the 1891 series 1d and 1s issues.

The underlying stamp is often poorly centered. Someone probably saw that one as a candidate for hijinks? It's not going to fool anyone with a catalogue.

edited to ask, does it have gum?

Revenue collector, good point. CJD, I'll dig it up and check for gum and see about getting a picture of the back posted also. My thought for posting this here was that someone may have encountered it before or was aware of it being a possilbity. If that's not the case, then it's likely an overprint experiment.
