1869 Pictorial . Glue.trap?

Heres a shot of my 1869 U.S Pictorials
I won the Scotts U.S 122, 90cent Carmine & Black
from an online bid, got it for a really good price.
When it showed up , upon closer inspection I could
see it was cut to imperf then glued onto a perforated back piece ?
Yet the grill is still visible from the backside, I tried soaking it off ,
Only the smallest bit of a corner came up, not enuff to set free without damage.
Has any one seen anything like this before ?

It's been rebacked. Someone took a damaged stamp and added the margins and the perforations. You should return it and get your money back if you can.

I paid about $260 American a few years ago,

I wouldn't pay you $20 for it.

It is a space filler, a severely damaged one. If there was a picture to examine at time of purchase, it is obvious the item was rebacked. With 122s and many other high value items, a cert is needed unless one is will to chalk up to cost of buying a fake as an educational experience.

At the time I was an over the road truck driver, so by
the time I had purchased it, recieved it, and examined it,
the 30 day money back guarantee had expired. I was happy with it
for the longest time, with the mentality of " well, its ugly but its mine "

Any thoughts on how they got a grid to show up on the back side ?

It's likely glued to another pictorial issue, hence the grill on the back.
