Found this blue framed 6c Campo amongst a large mixture of el salvador and it looks very vibrant for a changeling. Since it is used, i'm leaning towards changeling. Has anyone ever seen an actual color error and how can I tell the difference other than expertising?
My catalog (MICHEL) states the following: This is not a case of color change (e.g., due to sunlight or similar factors). This is a forgery intended to defraud collectors and dealers. The blue/black color was produced by chemical treatment with diluted hydrochloric acid.
Basically, to me, that also is a changeling. In other words, it was originally green and has become blue due to something affecting the ink. But how do I know that for sure other than expertising? My internet searches talked about ways to test the ink but said it could only be done by an expertising organization.
Why throw away your money on expertizing. These stamps have been collected for over a hundred years with nobody reporting an actual color error so 99.999999999999% you will not be the first one. Besides, the Michel catalog is making a SPECIFIC NOTE that these have been created using acid. Do you really need more?
