@stampcrow - PlateAI will usually return 10 stamps regardless of how good the scan is. Look at the scores to have an idea of the ML model's confidence. Phone/Ipad photos will work, but the results are much worse.

Good day all, here is another beautiful cover and 10a shade
just seems to orange. canceled by a black 7 bar circular grid
hand stamp. CDS red Morristown Pa APR 16
it seems Im stuck again on plate position. if anyone could

Hi Phade -- You are probably correct about "Norristown". I checked Jim Forte's online Post Office lookup utility -- and there is no "Morristown" listed for PA -- but there is a "Norrristown" -- in Montgomery County -- established in 1798 and still around today. // Regards // ioagoa

I think the one with black US New York express is an US No. 11a the other
with the black Jacksonville ILL canceled with a 7 bar circular grid handstamp
is a 10a copper brown? I appreciate any and all help.

Both of your stamps are Scott #11A.

The stamp with the N.YORK U.S. EXPRESS MAIL cds is position 90R3. The stamp is badly sulphuretted which significantly distorts its original color.

The stamp with the 7-bar circular grid cancel on the JACKSONVILLE, ILL cover is position 48L1L. I usually will not comment on colors in scanned images -- but on my monitor the color is no where even close to copperish orange brown which only comes from plate 2E.

Nice Express Mail cover. Well struck cancel looks nice.

On my screen your stamp with the grid cancel appears more like a claret with some oxidation. Please do not take my comment as being true. Wait for an expert here to reply.

Hi Phade --

Your stamp with the red circular grid cancel on the cover with the red SEP 29 N. YORK U.S. EXPRESS MAIL is position 67L1i -- thus a Scott #10A.

Your stamp with the black FEB 10 N. YORK U.S. EXPRESS MAIL is probably platable -- but as the stamp is pretty rough with its Bottom Frame Line completely cut off, major vertical tear (almost looks like it might be two halves rejoined), Left Frame Line shaved at its upper end, and surface worn impression -- much time may be required to nail it down.

The stamp is definitely a Scott #11A -- and looks to be an A relief from either plate 2L or 3 (as based on the recutting of the Top Label Block and the lack of gouging in the Upper Right Diamond Block it does not look like plate 1L -- and with a usage of Feb 1854 -- it cannot be plate 5L which did not come into use until September 1855). It has both of its inner lines recut -- so that eliminates plates 4, 6, 7, and 8.

If I were going to spend the time to plate this stamp, I would use the upper end point of the LFL in combination with the lower end point of the RFL as my primary search feature. I would check every A relief on both plates 2L and 3 to generate a candidate list. Then I would come back through with closer study and look for ways to eliminate or confirm each candidate.

PS -- This stamp is a good candidate to use PlateAI's "Position Explorer" feature. If you decide to do that -- you will first want to set the filters to include only Relief A stamps from plates 2L and 3. The rosettes will need to be manually marked -- as that vertical tear distorts the normal rosette spacing relationships. Also, that vertical tear distorts the compressed Frame Line curves -- especially the Top Frame Line and the Right Frame Line (which is artificially bent due to how the tear separates the paper). Still, I believe that the stamp is platable if worth your time to methodically and carefully go through the process of elimination.
