lithograving - Unquestionably, each artist brings his or her own distinctive style to stamp design. In recent years I have found that my interest in the role
of the artists/designers
of postage
stamps has grown so much that it now rivals my long-held interest in stamp engravers.
Here are images
of four examples
of the work
of Hungarian graphic artist and engraver György Lengyel on
stamps issued by Hungary. The first two
stamps were both designed and combined engraved by Lengyel and lithography, while the portraits
of medical pioneers were designed by Hungarian illustrator, print maker, and graphic designer János Kass (1927-2010), and engraved by Lengyel. Quite a difference, I would say!
