Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen (1845-1923) was a German physicist who in 1895 produced and detected electromagnetic radiation in a wavelength range today known as X-rays or Röntgen rays, an achievement that earned him the first Nobel Prize in Physics in 1901. Here is an image of a stamp depicting an x-ray of a human hand, printed by lithography, and issued by Germany on March 9, 1995 to commemorate the centenary of Röntgen's scientific achievement, Scott No. 1885.

Detail of the Dance of Death from Hrastovlje Church - 2005

The fresco from year 1490 painted on the southern wall is 90cm high and 630cm long. It features eleven figures including every walk of life, from pope, kings, queens, cardinals, bishops, priests down through richmen, tradesmen, cripples, and even a child just emerging from its cradle. They are each holding hands with a skeleton who leads them to the master skeleton, Death himself, who in his turn helpfully holds the lid to the grave open. The part of the fresco depicted on the se-tenant stamps features skeletons, the priest holding a book under his arm, the bishop and the cardinal.

The skulls there are on the painting "A Knight at the Crossroads" russian painter Viktor Vasnetsov. The painting is an illustration to a common motif of Russian folk fairy tales, when a hero comes to a fork in the road and sees a menhir with an inscription, kind of: "If you ride to the left, you will lose your horse, if you ride to the right, you will lose your head".

Nells250 - Yes, the cartoon drawing with the Mexican skeleton is amazing!

The drawing was made by José Guadalupe Posada (1852-1913) a famous satirical Mexican artist.
This is another stamp with a drawing of Posada that represents a scene of Don Quixote :
