Nice cancel but a common one. This type of cancel would half the stamps value.
But great stuff to collect which is the most important thing to the collector.

Their are lots of printing flaws on your KGV that look interesting. Like fox head roo, roo's tongue out, flaw in "H" of half etc. But they are not constant printing flaws but what we call tin sheds, meaning one off printing flaws that are of novelty value only but good stuff to collect.
But in saying this the fly speck book that covers this stamp is the only book I do not have. I rely on my Australian Commonwealth Specialist Catalogue.

Australian slogan postmark circa 1927

"USE THE AIR MAIL"

Thread title could be changed to
Australia: Slogan : Use the Air mail

No I cannot Moldman,
very interesting postmark.
I'll put that one in my query bin.

Update

I have a feeling it is connected to RPO / TPO
perhaps the "Up" rail Melbourne Sydney
or the "down" rail sydney to Melbourne
to catch packet boat mail.

I have the answer in a magazine, but locating it
amongst 1000's will be a headache.

According to N. C. Hopson in 'The Sydney Views' (Feb, 1990), the 'Special' postmarks appear to have been applied to late mail that was posted in special boxes at the GPO that were provided for that purpose and open for a short time near the end of the day. Mail posted in those boxes did not attract a late fee.

The codes (such as Special Q and Special M) indicated the destination according to the box in which they were posted. e.g. Queensland (via Northern Express) and Melbourne.

This is a Trove article from The Newcastle Morning Herald and Miners' Advocate on 18th May, 1918, regarding the provision of, and usage, the special postbox for Newcastle mail:

Thanks for that information rod222 and fairdinkum. I had forgot about this. Now I'll be looking at my stash of KGV's and see if I have anymore.

SPECIAL postmarks are reasonably common, Moldman, makes for a nice collection. Good hunting.

As is the case for many categories of postmarks, there are more readily available types and there are types of 'SPECIAL' that are quite difficult to find.

Bobby,
I have 15 years of filing info, shared between colleagues, oft times, I have no idea from whence they came.
I always try and provide authorship where possible.

I was thinking either "The Australian Philatelist" or, that "other" Australian stamp forum, a colleague may have sent it to me, (I do not belong)
Not Billigs I don't think.

I had trouble finding my info, (I am now using "XYPlorer" a new engine)

I found this, this, I think this is my scan, from the "Sydney Views" author Richard Peck.

My first enquiry on SPECIAL was years ago when I found mine.
