Booklet Panes 1953-65 Plus 2 Rare 1965 Panes

A set of booklet panes from 1953-65, normal perforations. The two panes EDITION G6 and EDITION N8 are rare.

EDITION G6: Australian Commonwealth Specialists' Catalogue {ACSC) "The existence of booklet stamps printed with ordinary (non-helicon) ink was first reported in early 1966 after the stamp had been discontinued. An official explanation was issued stating that these stamps were printed in error but that it was decided to issue the made-up booklets, distribution being restricted as far as practicable to States other than New South Wales and Victoria". The catalogue also mentioned that it is believed that four complete booklets have been identified (Edition G6), several panes of 6, and a small number of single stamps."

EDITION N8: Australian Commonwealth Specialists' Catalogue {ACSC) "It is believed that this variety was the result of damage to the alto plate, prior to the manufacture of the last three electros. These electros have been arbitrarily numbered (a), (b) and (c). A relatively small printing in red from electro (a) was made in this original state. Subsequently, the units were retouched and larger printings were made. Electros (b) and (c) are not known in their original state, and it is therefore assumed that recutting was performed prior to the first printings in red."
