This is one of my favorite ship cards. Canadian National Steamships had five similar ships named for wives of British Admirals: Lady Nelson, Lady Rodney, Lady Somers, Lady Drake, and Lady Hawkins. This view card was used for all five ships, simply changing the overprinted name of the ship. |

I like that artist signed card of the "RMS Lady Hawkins". I noticed too that jarnick also mentioned the "RMS Lady Nelson". This ship, and others, also served as hospital ships during WW 2. I have posted a postcard and a cover that was mailed from this ship and illustrate them here the way I mount them on my album pages. Chimo Bujutsu |

Thank you Blaamand. All my albums are a labour of love. I now have 3 large full binders of ship postcards and still have more to mount. I will probably end up with 5 volumes once I am done. These albums contain both postcards and covers, all ship related. There are even a couple of ship internal newspapers Chimo Bujutsu |

Q/ Any votes in favor of starting a "Shipcards ROTW" topic in the "Worldwide Postcards" forum? Cheers, /s/ ikeyPikey |

If they had pocket track charts for passengers on the SS France in 1964, I never saw them and, frankly, my father was the sort of guy who would have pointed them out, and had us keep one up to date.
Which begs the question: how was it done?
Q/ Was there a daily announcement on the public address system?
Q/ Was there a daily announcement at breakfast each morning?
Q/ Was the information posted, in one/more places, so that passengers could update their charts at any time?
Cheers,
/s/ ikeyPikey |

A bump for the thread. Huge City of Cleveland Steamer. This one is postmarked in Cleveland Aug. 11 1908. |

I'd like to add a card of one of the most famous ships in recent history -- the battleship Maine. Or at least her remains in Havana Harbor. I was quite startled to find this in a $1 box, considering picture postcards had not really been established in 1898 when the Maine exploded, setting off the Spanish-American War. EDIT: And here's the back of the card. Diamond News Co. issued cards in Cuba from 1900 to 1906, marketing mostly to occupying U.S. military personnel. |
