On March 24, 1983 Finland issued a set of two stamps promoting vacationing and tourism in its northern region. The 1.20 Mk stamp (Facit #924) of the set depicts a gold washer in the Lemmenjoki area.

On April 24, 2014 Ireland issued a se-tenant pair of 60c stamps to recognize the country's Viking heritage. One of these stamps (Sc # 2030) depicts the Waterford Kite Brooch, which was found by archaeologists during a late 1980's dig in the city of Waterford.

From waterfordtreasures.com website, "The Waterford Kite Brooch was made in about 1100 and is Ireland's finest example of personal jewelry from the period...The body of the brooch was made of a cast hollow silver kite-shaped box to which was attached a hinge and long silver pin to fasten the cloak. The box was decorated with sumptuous gold filigree impressed with gold foil and amethyst-colored glass studs."
