Some more North American scenes: Eunice Lake up in Mount Rainier National Park was named after Eunice Roth by her husband Andy who grew up in Washington and was active in the forest service for many years. On calm days the lake mirrors the mountain to perfection. Stamp of 1934.

Hi Kuol, The white birds on vacation in Ireland look very much like singing swans (as opposed to mute swans). I had the good fortune to see the geese there once (cold, rainy, windy weather) and only the front of their faces are white. They nest in Greenland and other circumpolar regions. By the way, the ruins of the old castle are still there and the area around it was quite deserted, almost spooky, but that was in the 1960s. K.

The peat-rich Ruggeller Riet Nature Reserve covers an area of 90 hectares in the northernmost region of the country. Lowland moors, ponds, hedges, trees and litter meadows provide an ideal habitat for many endangered animals and plants. The photograph of Xaver Roser shows a pond in the midst of a meadow reflecting the blue sky and white clouds.

(Kris Rascher: The Ireland Nature Reserve stamp shows whooper swan instead of Greenland white-fronted goose. Thank you for your keen observation)

The Naardermeer is a wetland region not far from Amsterdam. Lakes and marshlands provide a habitat for the plants and animals shown on the sheet of stamps issued in 2015.

Hi Kuol, It was wonderful to stroll through the Ruggeller Riet a few years ago, but I was saddened that the invasive species North American Goldenrod could already be seen in several places. Common to all the biospheres on your thread is that they are susceptible to invasion. K.

The greater part of the Delta lies in Romania, while its northern part, on the left bank of the Chilia arm, is situated in Ukraine. In 1998, under UNESCO's Programme on Man and the Biosphere, 6,264 square km of the delta were established as a biosphere reserve. Only designated canals can be used for shipping.
