Curious to hear what folks think about getting this issue expertized - any difference/recommendation between APS or PF? I did contact Bill Crowe months ago but never heard back, and he sadly passed not long after. |

gvol- I thought you already had, and I was patiently hoping to see the outcome.
I just had a couple of certs come back from APS. I talked to Ken Martin at APS about both of them. Sent them in March, received the good cert of the 2 at APS in May (would've been 6-8 weeks, and that was fair). The other one, Ken agreed with me, but received a negative response from one of the experts. He still thought it was good, and ended up sending it to 2 more experts before he came up with the negative result. Took 5 months, which I thought was again fair, since it went out 3 times. So, he really tried for me.
Never using PF before, and most of my certs were from Bill Weiss or even Richard Doporto, I was somewhat impressed by Ken's actions at APS. So, they may be an option for you. G'Luck!! Ray |

Thanks, Ray. Sent it into the PF and will see what they say. Difference with APS in cost is minimal if a 64, less so if it's a 64a, but we'll see! |

Since we are on the subject, can someone show a spectrum to include the pigeon blood, what everyone calls Indian red, and brown red of 1875 I believe it is. |

Lalo.Man - In my opinion, none of your stamps are any of the 64 pink shades. The 1861 3c issue comes in so many shades of colors that it is almost impossible to determine which shades your stamps are on my monitor as colors most often are not reproduced accurately using computer scans and monitors. |

Update on the cert - was a pretty quick turnaround from the PF, and they found mine to be a genuine 64, not a 64a.
Not the ultra rarity I was hoping for, but at least this way the expertizing bill is much smaller, and besides, a 64 is always a nice find! Into the album it goes... |

PBP has a purplish overtone, once seen it is memorable enough to be remembered. Really a unique shade. |

Congrats on the 64. Too bad it wasn't something better. I was crossing my fingers hoping... |

Thanks - same here, but given that I found it in an old album (so the direct cost was basically zero), I'll take it! A new one for the collection, too. |
