Thanks, scinde_dawk, for your warm words!

From 1889 up to 1907, all stamps issued for use in French Indochina colony were general stamps show allegorical figures, the same stamps issued for most of the French colonies. In 1905, Paul Doumer, the governor of French Indochina, demanded to have distinctive postage stamps that show local culture. Hence, in 1907, a definitive set of stamps featuring young women of different Indochinese ethnicities was issued for use in the colony.

The set, contains seven different woman designs, was designed by Puyplat based on real photos and engraved by G. Johannet (which his name doesn't appear on the stamps). For years I try to find the original photos used to design these stamps and until today, I found five original photos out of the seven designs. Here they are:

Lao Woman from Province Houaphanh (My postcard is a colourised one. The original PC is of course B&W):

According to Michel catalogue this stamp shows a Tonkinese woman (today in Vietnam) but I think the women in the photo are Khmer [Cambodian], not from Tonkin:

Muong Woman from Tonkin (Today in Vietnam):

Khmer Woman:

Woman from Annam (Today in Vietnam):

I still didn't find the original photos used as models to design the following two stamps:

Annamite Women:

Khmer Woman:

LaoPhil - Your PHILEXAFRIQUE 1969 omnibus set presents a very fine array of French designers/engravers and their styles of engraving 50 years ago when engraved stamp beauties were at the height of their fame:

Albert Decaris 1901 - 1988 : D/E

Jacques Derrey 1907 - 1975 : D/E

Jean Pheulpin 1907 - 1991 : D/E

Pierre Forget 1923 - 2005 : D/E

Gilbert Aufschneider 1927 - : D/E

Jacques Gaut-hier 1931 - : D/E

Michel Monvoisin 1932 - 1982 : D/E

Pierre Béquet 1932 - 2012 : D

Cécile Guillame 1933 - 2004 : D/E

Moreover, the memorable stamp designs of an earlier period for each country are incorporated. What an added bonus!

Many thanks!

Florián

P.S. I am afraid there seems to be no way of spelling the name Jacques Gaut-hier without the hyphen.

Thank you very much, Florian, for your efforts and sharing your information. Indeed, there is no way to write the name Jacques Gaut-hier without the hyphen as it should be since the system changes the name to GauTheir. With time I will post more stamps engraved by French engravers from France, French colonies and Francophone countries.

Here is a set shows bull fighting issued by Spain in 1960. I have no information about the designer/s of them. They were engraved by Jose Luis Lopez Sanchez Toda, except the 30 cts which was engraved by German Martin Orbe. The stamps were printed by the Fabrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre (FNMT):

The Spanish engraved stamps from the sixties including the
bullfighting issue are some of my favourites.
Great engraving and printing. Amazing what they achieved
by combining only 2 colours.

The only fault I found for that era of Spanish stamps was
the poor centering.
