In the Scott catalog, Mozambique 387(15Oct1954).

I believe Mozambique was still a Portuguese Colony at the time the stamp was issued.

I believe the wording on the stamp reflects that fact that in 1951 Mozambique was declared an overseas province of Portugal (but in practice was still a colony).

And now Mozambique's in the Commonwealth!

thanks guys, I guess I was too tired last night, there's a nice space with a picture of it in my album staring right back at me in Mozambique 1954

I love this place!

BTW, Russia kicked my butt today, 1/3 of them went back into the envelope for another day.

indeed it is a stamp from Moçambique.

It continued to be a colony and declared a province in 1951, as mentioned above, but it was really the same thing, owned by Portugal.
In 1974, with the democratic revolution, it gained its independence.

Whether the stamp is issued to commemorate that or not, I'm not sure. I don't have any catalogue of Portuguese colonies, nor could I find anything (not easy finding information on the net about their stamps).
