What is needed is little grey kangaroos and Tasmanian devils and tigers and birds other indigenous wildlife populating the map

That would make this the appropriate moment to poach one of Rodney's previous postings ....

Brings back memories Ryan
although when I posted it, I shaded the 'orrible bits.

BeeSee, It's your page, and I think I would go
Indian Ocean for you, but for me, as an Aussie, it
would be Southern Ocean.
When I move home, the South coast will be my beach
and I'll always consider taking a dip in
the southern Ocean, the wave size almost demands it.
There is a certain feeling of chill when one goes South from
here, no stop till Antarctica.
I was on a naval destroyer in the late 60's when rescuing
a yachtsman with appendicitus, we went down into the
Southern Ocean amongst 30 foot waves which completely washed
away our steel staunchioned guardrails as if they were cheese.

Here is your conundrum

The 1827 Van Diemansland 2d newspaper duty stamp

Postmasters of VanDiemansland at 1832

Great page It's going to look marvelous
with the "Queen on throne" issues attached
That's where I would have the problem, I reckon
the stamps would look better hinged on such a page, but
good husbandry demands mounts.

Where is New South Wales or maybe even the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) for modern completeness on the Australia map?

Good point Puzzler! I will add a few things to the Oz map, especially since NSW is mentioned in my text

Or maybe I should just use the Rodster map that Ryan showed.

Rod, that is great historical stuff on Tasmania. Reprints of items like that would make great second pages for the collection.

Mr. Roadknight.....

BeeSee, here is some information that may be helpful
as information, maybe not.
Don't worry, it still confuses me, it is rather convoluted,
eg Norfolk Island was once part of Van Diemen's land.

Anyhow take from it, what you will.

Excellent Rod! I have learned more about Australian here than ever before.

The Canadian historical maps are almost as confusing as Australia.

I updated the map area, and decided to keep the Indian Ocean for now.

Splendid BeeSee,

I know people who have literally taken years to become proficient with AutoCAD, as it has, as you obviously know, very broad capabilities.

Do you think something similar to this is possible using Microsoft Word?

Puzzler,
The map sight is great.

thank you both,

YukonCat, pages can be made in MS Word, I have done it before. You would have to obtain and import the maps in as images, and maps can be customized in a program such as Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop.

Well AutoCAD is my profession so it is easiest for me. It is vector based so maps are easy to customize.

Very nice, that is what I like about printing your own pages. They disply not only the stamps but also the collector.

Great thread, this, full of fascinating info - mind you, I would never have the patience to do displays like you, BeeSee - but that's what's great about this hobby, each for their own.

Of course you could put in some colour like some of the old retro albums - I've got a wonderful Lincoln stamp album + maps + catalogue which has the maps in colour. For some reason I can't upload images today, so will try later to show their map of Australasia.

That is what is so nice about homemade pages - I can easily revise them if I want to add colour or change the design.
