off topic but sort of more of a thread hi-jack.....here. Before I purchased a set of 2009-2010 Scotts, individually, in an effort to determine current value....I used to scroll thru endless pages of stamp prices in the APS search section. I noticed available prices differed from a couple of dollars to many, for the obvious reasons...watermarks, conditions etc. Knowing that these are all for sale thru APS, what I wonder is...are all of these available stamps certified APS? It is my understanding that APS has possession of stamps that thyey sell and wonder about the expertised officialdom of these issues. anyone?
builderr, APS does not certify stamps on the site. If you read through the information available for sellers, you'll see that above a certain value, stamps must have certificates, but that's as far as it goes. Also, some stamps are marked with a small magnifying glass to indicate that forgeries are known for the issue. They also have pricing suggestions, I think around 50% of catalog. I've bought from the site and only had one misidentified stamp (wrong watermark). Returning it was simple.
Smauggie I agree the 2008's are adequate for most things..but if I can pick up 60 dollar books for 25 I will enjoy the convenience of haveing the updated catalog ...i am a stamp collector like yourself..a catalog to a stamp collector is as much a tool as a framing hammer is to a carpenter !!
