By the time I scrolled through 10 pages of elephants, I'd forgotten what was on the earlier pages so I hope you have not seen it before, Scott #129, Ethiopia 1919 |

Malaysia has issued several stamps with elephants. This one is Scott#975 2004, 4v set mammals. The cover is rather special as it was cancelled in the small town of Batu ( rock) Gajah ( elephant) |

rod222 - Glad you liked the India stamp. Here's another for you: Indian elephant, designed by Russian graphic artist and illustrator Alexei Mikhailovich Laptev (1905-1965), printed by photogravure, and issued by Russia (USSR) on June 18, 1964 as one of a set of seven stamps commemorating the centenary of the Moscow Zoo, Scott No. 2905, Zagorski No. 2949. - nethryk |

Elephants and rhinos in Australia? I just read an article, that according to a biologist these creatures could combat the spread of a large grass (Andropogon ischaemum) responsible for bushfires. Is this real? After rabbits&foxes, camels....hmmmm....no, it`s not a joke, I found several articles in english too...the funniest opinion(statment):"If we did go down the road of introducing elephants to Australia, we had better develop the technology to clone saber-tooth tigers to eventually control the elephants," http://www.guardian.co.uk/environme...a-wild-grass |

our_elephant - Welcome to SCF! We eagerly look forward to your further contributions. Somdet Phra Naresuan Maharat (1555-1605), a king of the Ayutthaya kingdom, was one of Siam's most revered monarchs, known for his campaigns to free Siam from Burmese rule. During his reign (1590-1605) numerous wars were fought against Burma, and Siam reached its greatest territorial extent and influence. Here is an image of a stamp depicting King Naresuan riding a royal war elephant while on the march with his troops, engraved and printed by Waterlow & Sons, Ltd., and issued by Thailand on February 15, 1955, Scott No. 275, SG No. 468. - nethryk |

Welcome to the family Our_Elephant I am cataloguing East Germany, hence Musawarat es Safra (also spelled Al-Musawarat Al-Sufra) is an archaeological site in Sudan, 20 miles from Meroë. It has ruins of a large Ku e building dating back to the 1st century. It has been suggested that the building may be a royal palace or a temple. The ruins comprise part of the foundations, of the walls, and about 20 columns. According to the scholar Basil Davidson, at least four Ku e queens—Amanirenas, Manaishakhete, Naldamak and Amanitere—probably spent part of their lives in Musawarat.
