Quote: The International Control Commission (ICC), was the international inspectors force that established in 1954 to enforce the Geneva Accords that ended the first Indo-China war. It comprised inspectors from three countries: Canada as a representative of the Western non-Communist bloc, Poland as a representative of the Eastern Communist bloc and India as a representative of neutral non-aligned countries. The inspectors were positioned in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos.
During the years of ICC service in Indo-China, India established field post offices (FPO) to serve the commission and their national contingents. The Indian field post offices functioned as a part of the Indian postal system and used overprinted Indian stamps. Among the overprinted stamp, was the Indian stamp shows the painted ceiling panel of an elephant from cave in Ajanta, Maharashtra, India. It was issued in three different overprinting on December 1, 1954: Field Post Office (F.P.O) 742 and 743, Saigon and Hanoi, Vietnam: Field Post Office (F.P.O) 744, Vientiane, Laos: Field Post Office (F.P.O) 745, Phnom Penh, Cambodia: Cover sent from FPO 744 in Laos to India franked with ICC stamps including the elephant: |

Quote: The Trung sisters (c. 14 – c. 43) were Vietnamese military leaders who ruled for three years after rebelling against the first Chinese domination of Vietnam. They are regarded as national heroines of Vietnam. Their names were Trung Trac and Trung Nhi. Trung Trac was the first woman to be a Vietnamese monarch, as well as the only queen regnant in the history of Vietnam and she was accorded the title Queen Trung. In page 31 of this thread I posted stamps from South Vietnam about the Trung sisters. Here is one stamps from the set of four identical stamps: North Vietnam also issued a set about this story shows the sisters riding war elephants. It was issued on March 14, 1959: |
