Here are some sports stamps from Afghanistan. Scott #496-505 & B37-B41. Can you spell repetitious. These stamps were issued to celebrate Children's Day. However the only stamp with Children is the 175p where they are skating. All other designs are of grown-ups (I assume, perhaps not) Wrestling, getting ready to hit each other with Clubs or slicing each other with Swords. At least the Semi-Postals are overprinted for UNICEF. Sometimes I just wonder.

This is another set of Sports Stamps from Afghanistan issued in 1962 Scott #604-608 & C23-C25. This set was also printed to Honor Children's Day. The people featured in all of the stamps of this set do not, to me, appear to be children. If they are children then they are very mature. Flowers and Peaches to celebrate Children's Day? I really enjoy seeing designs which utilize both, but I do believe if a stamp is issued to celebrate an event, it should depict that event on the stamp. So, perhaps Afghanistan postal authorities were trying to get maximum return on their investment? We have some great topical designs on these stamps making them more desireable for those folks that collect certain topicals and want complete sets.

What is this topic missing? The Great Pele! This stamp commemorated his very famous 1000th goal! Horah!
