Continuing the theme of bridges-canals, canal bridge in Moscow in Tushino. Artist distorted the composition that would show all types of transport. In reality, the railway bridge is 600 meters south

The Magere Brug, or narrow bridge crossing the Amstel river in Amsterdam dates back to the 17th century. It is a double leaf folding bridge made of wood and connects the two masonry parts of the bridge in the middle. It has been widened and renovated and is nowadays only for pedestrians. At night it is lit with hundreds of lights. Stamps issued in 1968 and 2012.

(Hi, Jose, That was impressive! K.)

Just north of Amsterdam lies Monnickendam on the Markermeer. Its small harbor has a one-leaf folding bridge for pedestrians and is filled with pleasure boats in the summertime. The town is known for its smoked eel and one sees between the masts of yachts on the right side the bronze fisherman hanging up his catch to dry. The stamp is part of the series "Beautiful Netherlands", this one 2005. The Great Church in the background is indeed great.

(Hello Alexey, Do you know what bridges are on the older tourist stamp of Holland - 1932? Hi Jose, The children's story by de Roos is about two boys who have a boat named the Chameleon and they are always up to all sorts of adventures. K.)

Another Dutch-style drawbridge, this one at the castle of the Danish Royal Family in Frederiksborg. The painting is by the Danish landscape and portrait painter Christen Koebke (1810-1848). He must have done the bridge more than once (almost like van Gogh did his several times) because the paintings differ. One of them can be seen in the National Gallery in London. Is the bridge still there? Stamp of 1989.

(Hi Alexey, Thanks for your great info! It of course made me wonder if Delfshaven has or had a bridge like the one in the stamp in 1620 K.)

Hi, Alexey! Why do the Russians put a Sphynx out in the snow? They are not used to that kind of weather! K.

Hi Alexey, Nice to see the Schlossbrücke, it is a Schinkel design and I had no idea that a Russian designer had used the decorations as a model. Luckily they were rescued before destruction during WWII. Did you know that the Schloss is being reconstructed? When I was there a few years ago, there was only a vast excavation pit, now it is almost done and might look about like the computer drawing with the bridge (the final decorations of the facade have yet to be agreed upon). Then I found a scan of an old post card. K.)
