Hi Jose, That old bridge in Neunburg no longer stands, but a new road bridge was constructed right across the reservoir, close to Neunburg where a dam was built across the Schwarzach. And I found a view of the hairpin curve of the Hochtannberg road. I took that route once, and it made me a bit nervous - one has to have very good brakes on the car. It is popular among cyclists.

(Jose, Do you already have all the new bridge stamps?)

The Old Stone Bridge of Regensburg, a bit downriver from Neunburg, is the oldest bridge of Germany still in use. Construction was begun in 1135. It was damaged in times of war, but always reconstructed/repaired. Present renovations are expected to be done this year, after which it will be limited to pedestrians and cyclists. An old engraving shows that the bridge had towers in bygone centuries. The stamp is part of a definitive series 1987-2003 called "Sehenswürdigkeiten" (Things worth seeing); maybe there will soon be a new one of this bridge. Note DM Pfennig and € cent, both valid in 2001.

(Hi Alexey, Tiny, but visible, the old bridge might be the predecessor to the Schlossbrücke! Caspar Merian, the son, also did prints of city-scapes. K.)

The Hearts of Ellan Vannin - Towns and Villages
The Ramsey Harbour Swing Bridge is located on the Isle of Man and links the town centre in Ramsey with the Mooragh Promenade. The Danube meanders its way from Regensburg down to Passau at the Austrian border. There it is joined by the Inn (upper in the stanp) and the Ilz (lower in the stamp). The old single-track rail bridge is no longer in use; The Louipold suspension bridge and the Marien masonry bridge carry heavy traffic. The Innsteg footbridge (not included in the stamp) is high enough to cross even at flood times, whereas the two bridges crossing the Ilz are then submerged. The Danube is not blue when it floods. The stamp is part of a series called "Pictures of Germany", designed by H. Schillinger, begun in 1993 and extending to 2003.

(Hi Jose, The Ramsey bridge looks good with its new coat of paint. K.)

STAMPS WITH BRIDGES - 2017
Netherlands - February 20, 2017 - EUROPA Stamps - Castles

Ammersoyen Castle is located in Ammerzoden in the Bommelerwaard region in the province of Gelderland, the Netherlands. When the original construction of the Castle occurred is unclear, some sources claim it was as early as the 12th century. However, the consensus among historians is that the Van Herlaer family completed the Castle in the 1350s. At the time of its construction, the castle was built along a branch of the River Maas. Just a few years after the construction of the castle was completed, the river was rerouted leaving the castle to be surrounded by a moat.(wikipedia)

Castle Doornenburg is a Dutch castle from the 13th century.
The castle is located in the eastern part of the province of Gelderland, near the village of Doornenburg. It is one of the biggest and most well-preserved castles in the Netherlands. It consists of the main castle and a front castle which are connected via a small wooden bridge. The castle was originally a fortified manor built in the 9th century. At this stage, it was known as the Villa Dorenburc. It wasn't until the 13th century that it was converted into a proper castle. Gradually, through the centuries, the castle was expanded further into its current form. The front castle was built in the 15th century. It contains sleeping quarters, a chapel and a farm, the latter being quite a unique feature for a Dutch castle. (wikipedia)

Switzerland issued a souvenir sheet commemorating the 'Basler Dybli' in 1995. The colorful mail pigeon was the fifth stamp ever issued, 1845. Part of the sheet consisted of an old engraving of the cityscape showing the only bridge across the Rhine in the 17th-18th centuries. The bridge was often damaged at high water and by ice floes and finally completely renewed in 1903-5. Today it is known as the 'Middle Bridge', but in M. Merian's aerial view (1615, the family Merian were native to Basel) it is the only bridge in the area. In the view of 1760 by Herrlinger, one can see that the bridge was half masonry-half wood; the Rhine was too powerful to set masonry at that time.

The Palmrain bridge and the 3-Nations bridge cross the Rhine just a bit downriver from the Middle Bridge in Basel. If you continue upriver on the Rhine, past the covered bridge at Stein and the railbridge at Koblenz, you come to the Rhine falls or cascade close to Schaffhausen. Just 200 meters beyond them a single-track rail bridge crosses the Rhine, takes a tunnel under the castle Laufen and continues on a viaduct below the falls. The bridge was built in the middle of the 19th century and now also carries a footbridge. The 9 arches of the bridge are all a bit different in length, depending upon the stability of the rocky bottom. Two sets of landscapes (1934 and 1936) and a panorama of 2015 show the bridge.

(Hi Alexey, Wonderful print, there is so much detail that the difference between the masonry and the wooden part of the bridge is visible. The view is downriver from the platform of the cathedral, the small park is still there. K.)

STAMPS WITH BRIDGES - 2017
USA - January 22, 2017 - Priority Mail - Lili'uokalani Gardens
Lili'uokalani Park and Gardens is a park with Japanese gardens, located on Banyan Drive in Hilo on the island of Hawai'i.
The park's site was given by Queen Lili'uokalani, and lies southeast of downtown Hilo, on the Waiakea Peninsula in Hilo Bay. Much of the park now consists of Edo-style Japanese gardens, built in the early 1900s, and said to be the largest such gardens outside Japan. The gardens contain Waihonu Pond as well as bridges, koi ponds, pagodas, statues, torii, and a Japanese teahouse. (wikipedia)

Hi Alexey, Merian must have missed the big masonry bridge across the Ilm in Weimar because it was built after he was there in the middle of the 17th century. It is known as the Sternbrücke or Schlossbrücke and is still in use for traffic. The holes relieve pressure at high water, so one can see how high it can get! The two towers are leftovers from times when the last arch was a drawbridge.
