Bischofszell lies in the Thur valley in northern Switzerland. The old masonry bridge dates from the middle of the 15th century and is still in use today, although not for motorized traffic. It has 14 arches and is 116 meters long. At high water such as in 2014 the meadow next to the river is flooded, at low levels it is covered with flowers. The stamp is the last in a series (1982-86) featuring the signs of the zodiac.

(Hi Alexey, The yellow design at the bottom of the stamp does look like a bridge, but not any special one; the stamp calls attention to renovating older and building new housing, 1984 - 35 years of DDR.)

The Friendship Bridge is an arch bridge connecting the Brazilian city of Foz do Iguaçu and the Paraguayan city of Ciudad del Este.
The bridge was opened to traffic in 1965. The space between the main arch is 290 metres . The bridge itself is 552.4 m long.
The bridge is extremely important to the economies of both Foz do Iguaçu and Ciudad del Este.

The bus queue is for Brazilians going to Parguai to buy Chinese products to resell in Brazil. These people are known as "sacoleiros"

Hi Alexey, On the engraving one can see the two bridges leading to the castle, at that time wooden bridges (on the stamp of 1982 they don't really show up). During the 19th century one larger masonry bridge was built and a shorter turn-bridge. When I was there years ago they were both being renovated and today look very good.

Hi Alexey, You found another tiny bridge! The viaduct across the small Ravenna river is part of the steepest rail route in Germany. It was built in 1926 after the older iron bridge was taken down. Damaged severely by the Germans in WWII to prevent its use, it was repaired in 1947-8. You can imagine that heavy snowfall is a problem in most winters here in the Black Forest, but local people enjoy having their Christmas market underneath it in December. Stamps with this motif were issued in 1947-9 in different currencies; Baden was the French zone at the time.

(You must have an amazing collection!)

Hi, Chris. I have got a good collection of stamps with bridges, which I've been collecting for 7 years and a detailed list of stamps with bridges of the world. For example in Germany I know 270 stamps with bridges. Here is another excellent example.. the small bridge before church in Zwiefalten

The old stone bridge, dating from 1632, crossing the Ri della Froda at Santa Petronilla is only for pedestrians and as the stamp suggests, bikers. From the bridge you can look down into the valley of the Ticino, which leads up to the Gottard and from the valley one can see the waterfall coming down from the location of the bridge. Beautiful hiking country.

(Alexey, A bridge is a bridge is a bridge, regardless of how small - what fun! Are you missing any? Kris)

There are stamps where the bridge is not the main figure of the picture.
An example is the painting Mona Lisa of Leonardo da Vinci.
This depicted the bridge on the right side of the Mona Lisa's shoulder.

France - Date: 26 March 1999 - Scott 2713b

According to the Italian scientist Carla Glory, this bridge in the town of Bobbio became the prototype of the bridge on the portrait of the Mona Lisa

Another example of a bridge in a painting: Henri Rousseau painted a view of the Pont du Carrousel behind himself. The old photograph shows what the bridge, which dates from the 1830s, looked like when he was there; it was renovated in the 1930s. The similarity to the Isabel bridge on page 31 is obvious! The painting can be seen in Prag.

(Hi, Alexey, Behind Mona Lisa it might be the Bobbio Bridge, but it might also be the Ponte Buriano - the painting has left many people guessing! K.)

The border of the Roman empire is known as the Limes. It is part of a complex system of berms, ditches, palisades, walls and guard towers at the limits of the empire. Today it is a UNESCO world heritage site in Germany and is a popular tourist attraction. The largest reconstructed fort is at Saalburg, not far from Frankfurt and is depicted on the souvenir sheet, commemorating 1897, the year in which excavations and reconstruction were begun, - next to it the Limes line of fortifications. The small wooden bridge is of course a modern construction, but Roman, or Roman-style bridges can be found throughout the pink area in the map. Stamp 2007.

STAMPS WITH BRIDGES - 2017
Denmark - 2 January 2017 - EUROPA Stamps - Castles

In 1850, Frederick VII had a landscaped garden laid out to the north-west of the castle with winding paths, canals and artificial lakes. On Louise's Island, named after his third wife, a small wooden manor house was built in the Norwegian style, from which the king could go out fishing and enjoy uninterrupted breaks with his wife.
To the east of the castle, the Baroque Park with its waterfalls was originally created by the court gardener Johan Cornelius Krieger for Frederick IV in the early 1720s. Its carefully planned symmetrical features were designed to surround the parks centrepiece, a fountain from which water cascaded down the terraces to the lake below. Neatly laid out paths, shrubs and flowerbeds were arranged around the central fountain. The garden was maintained until the beginning of the 19th century when it was abandoned. The shrubs grew wild but the paths and terraces could still be seen. In 1993 it was decided to recreate the park in its original style. Now known as Kaskaderne (The Cascades), it was reopened in 1996 with a multitude of new shrubs and trees, making it Denmark's most notable Baroque garden. Crafted in miniature hedges, the monograms of Frederick IV, Christian VI, Frederick V and Margrethe II form part of the central layout. (wikipedia)

There are two more famous bridges belonging to the border of the Rome Imperi - Limes. These are the bridges of Emperor Trajan,

a floating pontoon and a permanent bridge across the Danube.

Both bridges were erected during the war with the Dacians and their leader Decebalus

The images of the bridges were preserved on the reliefs of the Trajan column in Rome

And that's how they could look in reality (Jose, thank you for imadge)

In 1984 the Swiss philatelic society met in Zürich; the souvenir sheet issued for the event as well as the cancel, featured the Münsterbrücke which crosses the Limmat River. The 4-arch masonry bridge dates from the 1830s and replaced the wooden plank bridge painted by Hans Leu (1460-1507) in 1500. The spires of the Grossmünster (Cathedral) were restructured in the 18th century. It looks as if the old bridge had an apparatus for trapping fish - any ideas?

(Hello Jose, You found some more tiny bridges! K.)
