Hi Blaamand I am glad I was able to help out. The one thing I did wrong was state to you that it was a W30 cancel. That is actually the catalogue number. I did the right cancel, but I should have stated it is a Type 17G cancel. All the information is correct as stated from the book. I use the "Catalogue of Canadian Railway Cancellation and Related Transportation Postmarks" by Lewis M. Ludlow.

The number in the this particular cancel is the train number. To the best of my knowledge, there have been a few other numbers reported for this cancellation.

I will have to get caught up on this thread <G>

I just realized I put a closeup of this on Page 7 of this thread.

Here's an early Railroad postmark with a 3d stamp.

KINGS. & TORONTO GR. TRK R. WAY P.O. No. 2
C UP AUG 27 1857

No. 2 was the postmark device number and UP being the direction the train was travelling, in this case, West. The back has two scarce postmarks, both faint, a large circular transit postmark from LONDON and an early double arc PORT SARNIA receiver.

similar in style to C & V RPO is this Blaine & Vancouver RPO postmark of Feb 10 1910.

Information and examples of this postmark I could not find on the internet. Information appreciated.

US Clerks from Seattle handled the mail car from Seattle to Blaine and the Canadian Clerks from Vancouver took over at Blaine. . These cars ran on the "Internationals" on the Great Northern. The American crew got off in Blaine and the Canadian crew got on. Going south, the Canadian crew handed the car over to the American crew. The car was a Great Northern car.
