Good afternoon all!
Bought some covers yesterday, and one is a Saudi Arabia cover from the late 40's with four stamps, one of which is the 4g orange in the scan. While having an initial look in my old Middle East SG catalogue I saw a note for this issue stating "Imperforate examples exist but are not believed to have been issued". However if you look at the scan you will see that three sides of this are imperf, and the fourth side appears to be all blind perfs. Does anyone know of any others of this issue found used, imperf?
Thanks in advance folks........

David:

I can't answer your question, but I'll give you something to work on while you wait.

It took me forever to get the hang of scanning images for SCF. Most all of us have had a learning curve with them. You're on the right track, but here's a hint for you: use your CROP feature to eliminate all the excess white space to the right and below your stamp. This will give you a larger image of stamp and a smaller file size.

There are several good tutorials on SCF if you search.

KirkS

P.S. this is intended as a helpful hint, no criticism of your scan is intended

Thanks Kirk, I am finding it a bit tricky to get a scan accepted by the site. Will check out the hints.

David, Saudi Arabia is way outside my collecting comfort zone, but I suspect the row of blind perfs you mention holds the key.

If the perfs were defective on one side, they probably were also on the other three sides. I'd suspect that someone - either in the post office or the sender - lost patience with the poor perfs, and resorted to scissors to separate the stamps.

Tony, you could be right, but the size of the margin in the bottom left corner of the stamp is quite wide and shows no indication of blind perfs at all. I guess without removing the stamp from the cover we won't know for sure, and I'm not going to do that. The cover will go on E-bay, the Middle East is quite collectable at the moment and the cover is from the VP of the old Arabian American Oil Company to the Master of wellington College in the UK, so is quite interesting on a few different levels.
Thanks for your input.
