I know how you all enjoy pics, well here you go.

This cover was addressed to my Great Grandfather who was 19 year old at the time of this cancel date. Believe it or not the 5 pages of various foreign stamps shown here were still enclosed. It seems he, my grandfather, and my dad, did not do anything with them. Now here it is 110 years later, and I'm a little intimidated myself.

Unfortunately they are attached with gummed hinges. Not the type you can soak for a few minutes and remove. And some are not in too good of shape. It doesn't appear that any of them have any substantial value, although I have only identified 6 or so.

Just for curiosity I did try to research the stamp dealer that sent these (C.A.Stegmann)and they don't seem to be in business anymore.

I digitally added the red print to identify the various pages.

There's a few there that would repay close attention, I suspect.

The one that catches my eye is the 5k red with the Hapsburg eagle on page 2. Bosnia and Herzogovina 1879, I think. It seems to be in beautiful condition for a stamp so old - such a shame about the damaged perfs on the righthand corner!

There is an advertising of Stegmann in the boy scout paper, Boys' Life (april 1918), and there is a stamps column. Interesting. I think that's where allot of boy got to know about stamps collecting.

Nice St. Louis & Webster Groves RPO cancel.
Edit: Sometimes (quite often) my obsessiveness with U.S. material become glaringly obvious. Very nice example of early stamp approvals. Nice historical perspective on the hobby. Also a nice family tie for you. Thanks for posting

Thanks for pointing out the St Louis, Webster connection. I'd have missed it. Now, I do really need to look at some of mine.
