Wonder if anyone on this board has access to information regarding quantities of classic foreign stamps minted. While we have reasonably accurate data on the quantities of US classics printed, I don't know where to find such data on foreign stamps. For example, high value British East Africa,1898, Scott 102-109; Mexico high values 1895 Scott 254-256, and Spain 1874 Scott 204-210. If I knew the reference I would look it up myself but am not sure where to get such information.

Hi funcitypapa

For Colombia a 1980's Alvaro Barriga or Leo Temprano will have some of that information. For SCADTA there are numerous books, Gebaur, Londoņo, Kessler, etc.. For Venezuela a Blanco catalog will have the number issued.

For British Empire stamps, the Robson Lowe Encyclopaedia of British Empire Postage Stamps 1775-1950 in five volumes is a good source. It was reprinted in the Billigs Philatelic Handbook series.

Incidentally, in the classic era particularly, you do need to distinguish between numbers printed and numbers sold. Not all values of some sets sold out, and many stamps were overprinted and surcharged. This means that the actual numbers available to the market can be very different from the raw print run numbers.
