Although their colours seem different I have identified these two Sweden King Oscar II stamps as Scott#39 (the 1885 issue). Both have 1885 cancels, appear unwater-marked and have no horns on the back. The catalogue says that this issue is dull rose in colour. Given the colour difference in my images have I made the right designation?

Scott does not list all the known minor color varieties; not even in the Scott Classic.

From FACIT, there are 4 color varieties printed in 1885: red, dull carmine, red carmine, pale carmine.

They all have the same catalog value.

Your left stamp appears to be Type II in the FACIT catalog. I cannot tell on the right stamp because the postmark partially obscures the upper left posthorn.

Facit also mentions re-engraving for Type II, which could account for some small differences in appearance. (?)

I'd say it must be,
the top frame is decidedly different.

Russ: some human interest related to the postmark - the big news in Mariannelund, Sweden, in 2010 had to do with the cancellation of postal delivery. People were upset so I don't know if it happened or not.
