I've been unable to find much information on either of these issues and I'm hoping that someone can provide additional background on any or all.

The five "Asociacion Benefica de Correos" stamps are listed as a bogus local issue on a cached page in AskPhil (the site is currently being revamped). Most of the other information that comes up in my Google searches is in Spanish and linked to auctions.

There is a short explanation of the "Colegio de Huerfanos de Telegrafos" in an article in the Linns.com Refresher Course titled The road less traveled: telegraph stamps:

Quote:
Spain issued a number of charity labels for the benefit of orphaned children of telegraph workers.

The stamps inscribed "Hogar de Huerfanos de Telegrafos" were sold to support an orphanage for the children. Those in which the inscription begins with "Colegio" instead of "Hogar" were sold for the benefit of an orphans' school. Like the Spanish orphans of the post charity labels that could be used on letters, the use of these stamps on telegraph despatches was entirely voluntary.

Orphans of the telegraph charity stamps are listed in the Spanish-language Galvez Specialized Spanish Stamp Catalog and Edifil Unificado Stamp Catalog of Spain and Dependencies.

Any information related to time of issue, usage, value, meaning of overprints, etc., is appreciated.

Steve

They are not really cinderellas but, a kind of revenue stamps with which you contributed (o a "more or less voluntary way") to civil service's charity funds. Better to use if you wanted to cut the red tape... In some cases they were clearly compulsory.

I'll have to debate you on that.

Compulsory or not, they did not carry postage.
hence cinderella.

Hey, there's an interesting topic for debate. What exactly defines a cinderella? I would not have thought a revenue stamp would fall into that category, because it's issued by a government. Does that also mean, Rod, that excise, custom, war tax and other back of book stamps like that are cinderellas?
Inquiring minds want to know.

A cinderella is something that doesn't carry postage, but looks like
a postage stamp.
Be alert, some stamps are wolves hiding in sheeps clothing,
The "semi postal" can fit both hats.

Part value tablet goes to carry post, what's left, towards a charity
or compulsory tax.

A revenue is a tricky one, it is a revenue but still a cinderella in some circles.

Cinderellas biggest grouping are "poster stamps"

To really mess with your head, here is what my cinderella club considers fruit for the harvest....

These items are listed by the std Edifil catalog (not the specialized one!) under "Beneficencia" (Charity stamps). They are issued by a public body for administrative purposes. So for me they are clearly "Charity stmps" not cinderella.

Cursus, if you have access to the Edifil and can provide more information on the stamps posted (e.g., date/place of issue, etc.) I'd greatly appreciate it.

And to keep this thread alive, here is another charity stamp that I came across today.

I know this is old news, but I found a couple of beneficencia stamps in an old album (hinged within the Portugal pages!) - thought I could share here.

The second stamp is not a "Beneficencia" one, but a Barcelona City Council tax stamp. You can see information about them on this forum.
