June 15 was Flag Day in US? I always thought it was the 14th. It is bad enough that the United States Fathers Day and my Brithday fall on the same day some years.

stallzer, that's a strange looking CDS. The lettering of the town and state look hollowed out. What's going on there?

Don't know. I've tried to find another but I can't even find one from the same year. I've found plenty from 1855 and earlier but have not seen one my self from 1864. I know it's the real deal, it's a family letter, not something from ebay.

This isn't mine, but I found it while searching the internet. It seems John W. Ryan communicated quite a bit with L.A. Hoquet (Lewis A. Hoquet, Druggist) of Bristol, PA back in the day, as this cover appears to have been written in the same hand:
