Back from Dr. appointment, and I finally found the missing Moody. Another batch scanning error! Didn't finish prepping the card for showing, found the front side reduced, but not straightened or filed, back wasn't reduced to sharing size, squared or filed.
It was a nice pair to post, the Bear Harbor RR roundhouse was in Moody. Mill and train crew quarters were in Monroe.
Moody.

Good morning, I'm still cleaning up yesterday's posting. Totally missed an 1893 EKU, and one for today.

Mar 3, Hydesville, this is catalogued as Hum-3190 in California Town Postmarks 18-50 - 1935 with listed usage dates of Dec 13 1893 and May 19 1894. This copy is a little more than 9 months earlier.
No way to know if it is actually the new EKU, as The Western Cover Society (John H. Williams publisher) has no way set up to report any new information, and I have 92 EKUs, 87 LKUs, and 31 un-reported postmarks.

anyway, here's Hydesville.

Today,
Port Kenyon.

Seven for today.

A combined express cover from originally from Arcata. A person bought this Wells Frage imprinted cover from H. Fleishman's store in Arcata, carried it with him and finally sent it thru Greenhood & Newbeuer's express in Weaverville.

Gracy, soiled and beat up but the cover and letter survived. Sad letter from Spanish American war vet down on his luck.

March 10

1969 - Victoria, Seychelles to Mont Buxton, Seychelles

As I understand it, there was a shortage of 10 cent stamps at this time, and the PREPAID handstamp was used to deal with that shortage. Maybe, not. everyone got the memo, because the letter has been taxed. But I suspect some philatelic play, possibly, as the taxed amount is usually double the fee paid, assuming that 10 cents paid the fee at that time. Unless of course it was an overweight letter requiring another 5 cents. Then the postage due required would be 10 cents. Just enjoy seeing Seychelles postage due stamps on cover.

Four today.

Rio Dell, a pretty nice early strike of Rio Dell's first commercial post marker (their second of eleven, up to 1935, more after, office is still open).

California Town Postmarks 1850 - 1935 records usage of this marker from Feb 4 1886 to Jun 28 1887, this cover has an Mar 22 1885 San Francisco receiver on the back.
Yep, took ten days to move mail the 245 miles from Rio Dell to San Francisco back then. Probably close to that now.

Hermitage, Postmaster compensation for 1881 (only reported in odd numbered years) was $23.31. Really was a hermitage!
