I was just trying to point out that the National Air Mail Week promotion was a big thing nationwide back in 1938, as evidenced by the overwhelming mail delivered to the Postmaster General from all parts of the country. Perhaps this link will better explain it...and it even provides a link to all of the covers/cachets used that week, including the Dedham, MA cover you posted: http://www.aerodacious.com/NAMW.HTM |

A post for May 20th. This is one of those micro-sized stamps that were apparently considered a failure because the US Postal Service only produced a select few issues in this format and then did away with them: |

Love this cover - one that has me making up stories. On the surface, it appears as a neat, postal item to an office in a Canadian University. Then you flip to the back of the envelope which is covered (wallpapered?) with stamps. I put it down to the possibility of a potential student who really wanted their application to be noticed and dealt with at the top of the day's pile. I also apologize if I have the date wrong. I used the 20.05 in the postmark but one backstamp disagrees. |

Understand the pain... Since I'm trying to organize to divest, it is more simple. sort by month for the calendar selection/ then sort by topical to divest. ? Thoughts? |

I won't be around tomorrow to post this, so I'll sneak it in a few hours early. Deutsch Neuguinea Michel PP1a (Einfeldt PP1a, Borek 1/01) cancelled at Berlinhafen on 22 May 1898. |

Back to bfranton's cover from 1885, according to this Wiki link, the addressee (Champion S. Chase) was in his third term as Mayor of Omaha, Nebraska at the time that cover was mailed. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Champion_S._ChaseMy error, he was impeached as Mayor of Omaha by 1885... Quote: At the mayor's impeachment trial on June 30, 1884, the city council voted unanimously to remove Mr. Chase from office for reasons of drunkenness, incompetence by reason of drunkenness, derangement of the nervous system and neglect of duty. The loss of his wife, Mary, to cancer in 1882 may have contributed to his ill health and financial difficulties. Council member Patrick Murphy completed his term. Though stained by his removal from office, Mr. Chase carried with him a reputation as a brilliant orator and lifelong friend of the oppressed. One of his final civic positions was as president of the state humane society. A southwest Nebraska county (Chase) and a town within that county (Champion) are named for him. He died in 1898. |
