It was "Hero's in the half-shell - TURTLE POWER!". COWABUNGA!

My son was young during that year and sang the tune all the time.

Amazing to see them on a meter, Miriam.

Hallo ROD!
I know only 2 cities: Cootomundoa and Koondrook (city with aborigin name of turtle).

Goodness me, I shall upbraid myself, for not
considering the indigenous names.
Bravo Tartamimmi.

Koondrook is an way inland town on the river Murray
How would they get turtle there .
You can stand on a bridge on the river,
and be half way in Victoria and half in NSW

For dyed in the wool Aussies, Mr. Roy Higgins
was born in Koondrook (Famous Jockey , on a stamp )

I have never come across a stamp, let alone a meter
with a Koondrook strike.

more info:
Post Office Name / State or Province / Postal Code / Dates of Existence**
Cootomundoa / New South Wales / 1877 to present /
Cootomundoa / Western Australia / 1924 - 1967
Koondrook / Victoria / 3580 / 2 Sep 1941

I think the correct name is Cootomundra or is another city?
interesting also the stamp: AUSTRALIA 1978 45c. ´Cootamundra Wattle´

from wikipedia:
The land where Cootamundra now stands is a part of the Wiradjuri tribal lands, and the name Cootamundra is probably derived from the Wiradjuri word guudhamang, meaning "turtle".

Tartamimmmmi,

Yes it is Cootamundra.

With respect to Torsten Steidten
he has it wrong I think,
There never was a cootamundra in western australia
at least, that I am aware of.

Here is your Cootamundra Wattle,
but please make sure your bonnett is securely
fashioned on your head,
If I get within 15 feet of a Wattle tree,
my sneeze would lift the roof off the sistine chapel.

These U.S. photo stamps are actually considered meter stamps, and you can order turtles and tortoises.

Those Zazzle stamps are something else, I like them. I have a couple cat ones in large size I think.

ebay auction on 'computer photo stamps', another area to watch perhaps.

What a facinating collection Miriam. Who would of thought there were that many meter stamps with turtles on them. I'll keep my eyes open for you for sure as I come accross lots of meter postage in my search.

Dianne
