Does anyone with expertise in the area of German stamps know whether this Bavaria/Germany 1920 issue is a catalogued plate error? There's a brown dot in between the numerals that I don't think is supposed to be there (see detail).

Detail:

All responses greatly appreciated!

Hi Jimjam2, According to the Michel Specialist Catalogue (1998) there are no varieties listed for this stamp (#124), except for variations in the 'D' of Deutsches.

Then I had a thought, which does happen once in a while . Perhaps the variety is listed under the non-overprinted stamp as the variety is not in the overprint.

Sadly. there are no listed varieties for this stamp.

Very nice stamp though. Definitely a keeper.

Thanks for taking the time to investigate, peterthio.

There is a website in development which looks like listing all the major varieties, including plate errors.* They just haven't 'done' this stamp yet.

Perhaps I'll write to them about it.

Jimjam, this site is excellent!

I have spent hours looking over the German Inflation period stamps. I've been looking for a site like this for ages!

Thanks soooooooooooo much for posting this link.

Glad you like it, peterthio! It will be amazing when it's finished.

Another online resource that's good for Germany is this one:

I sent the above scans to the guy who runs the website mentioned in the last and he just informed me that he has posted a reply on the site:

Most informative, I think.
