This is a set I never paid much attention to, until I saw them close up. They were issued in 1927, to benefit the Green Cross Society.

Do we have an accepted form / cynosure of the "Green Cross" Society?
I faintly recall on another forum a few years back
in Europe WW1 it centred on treating Alcoholism.
Then there was the green cross stamps /labels of malta
for servicemen (free postage for wives).
Any background of the GC of Suriname?

Scott's note says they promoted public health services. Google results either got me to these stamps, or a charity started by Mikhail Gorbachev. I did find one website in Dutch (I think) that leads me to believe it may still be active in community projects.

I am a little late with this; just now happen to read this thread.
The Green Cross is a home health organization in the Netherlands and its former Colonies, hence the Surinam stamps.
Het Groene Kruis ( The 'Green Cross' ) was founded in 1900 mainly to promote better healthcare on the local level, regardless of ones religion. In 1978 the organization merged with Het Oranje-Groene Kruis ( the Protestant 'Orange-Green Cross' ) en Het Wit-Gele Kruis ( the Catholic 'White-Yellow Cross' ) to form the 'Nationale Kruisvereniging' ( National Cross Society ).

I found them(after a long search in the dungeons). These were the kind of "stamps"(do not know the right description) one could purchase to support the Green Cross in Surinam and Dutch New Guinea. Probably 1950's

Kind regards, Johan
